General Responsibilities
As a Virtual Production Assistant at AUX Infinite Studios, I support the day-to-day operations of the studio and assist with various production activities. My responsibilities include setting up lights, cameras, grip equipment, cables, and other production equipment, as well as calibrating cameras and ensuring the tracking system is ready before filming. I also help maintain a clean, safe, and organised studio environment, attend production meetings, take meeting minutes, prepare production documents, and assist with pre-production, production, event planning and support, filming, editing, and other tasks required to ensure projects run smoothly.
Calibration
Camera calibration is an essential process in virtual production that ensures the physical camera accurately matches the virtual camera inside the 3D environment. This allows virtual backgrounds and CGI elements to align correctly with the real camera's movement, lens characteristics, and perspective, creating a seamless final image.
During the calibration process, I assisted with setting up and configuring the camera, selecting and adjusting the appropriate lens settings, and moving the camera around the studio to capture the mapping data required for calibration. I worked closely with the Brain Bar team by providing on ground technical support throughout the process. My responsibilities also included troubleshooting physical and hardware related issues, such as checking cable connections, replacing faulty equipment, and resolving technical problems to ensure the camera and tracking system were functioning accurately before filming began. Throughout my internship, I gained hands on experience working with several professional camera tracking systems, including the Mo-Sys StarTracker, Sony Ocellus, and stype tracking systems.
Organization and Studio Management
A key part of my role is helping to maintain a clean, organised, and safe studio environment so productions can run efficiently. Before each shoot, I assist with preparing the studio by organising equipment, managing cables, setting up workspaces, and ensuring the production area is ready for the crew and cast. Throughout the production, I also help maintain studio cleanliness and organisation to support a safe and efficient workflow.
